A friend recently turned me onto the work of New York-based, multi-medium artist Rashaad Newsome. I first fell in love with Newsome’s collages because they remind me so much of Riccardo Tisci’s patterns for Givenchy (pictured below). His art is largely inspired by New York and African American culture which is becoming increasingly relevant in the fashion industry thanks to Tisci’s countless hip-hop collaborations — Watch the Throne anyone??
(UPDATE 4.20.2012: Yet another Tisci collaboration announced with New York-based contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley)
